Gwinnett County Animal Welfare & Enforcement has joined a national fight to save stray animals from euthanasia. The organization has accepted the 2014 ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge and is an official competitor in a contest in which 50 shelters across the country try to break their own records saving the lives of animals. During the summer of 2014, each competing shelter must save more dogs and cats of all ages than they did during the same time period last year.

According to the website, as of Aug. 11 this initiative has already saved 40,599 lives. The Gwinnett shelter will release their numbers after the contest is over.
