Meet Wicket, voted Cutest Pup of 2015 and one of our DogStar models in the Mister Migs Denim Dogs Fashion Blast!
Meet Wicket, an adorable Pomeranian/Papillion mix who was voted Suwannee Magazine’s “Cutest Pup 2015.” But there’s more to him than just being cute as a button. Wicket is a therapy dog and Reading Education Assistance Dog (READ). He is registered through Pet Partners ® and Atlanta Pet Partners, Inc., a member of READing Paws, and a volunteer with Happy Tails Pet Therapy. Wicket regularly volunteers in our metro Atlanta schools and throughout the community helping children read, being a companion to Seniors, and helping individuals who are dealing with trauma.
Wicket’s very first therapy client was a 7-year old girl who had been so severely traumatized that she was in complete social withdrawal and not speaking. When they met, Wicket went right to her side and she immediately began to pet him and talk to him, telling Wicket about what had happened to her. After a few visits with Wicket, she came out of her isolation and was able to return to the happy little cheerleader she once was. Though she no longer needs his help, they remain in contact and she regularly emails Wicket’s mom to get his latest picture.
In another instance when Wicket was visiting a school, Wicket saw a young boy who was crying uncontrollably. Wicket walked right up to the little boy, cocked his head as if saying “what’s the matter?” The boy stopped crying and told Wicket what was wrong. Wicket is magic!
Perhaps Wicket understands how to help because he was rescued from a puppy mill when he was eight weeks old. Despite this rough start, he loves people and people love him. He can sense when someone has had a bad day and cheers them up with his affectionate antics.
Come meet this loving little ball of fluff at the Mister Migs Denim Dogs Fashion Blast in November!
